After a while away I've gained some sense on cycles and how they can benefit as well as cause resistance towards our craft and our well-being. In my case, I found myself frustratedly leaving certain projects --or for others, relationships behind only to return to them months later.
There are two points on the spectrum of this experience. Neglect and Focus. We are often located on either one. We've either stepped away or immersed ourselves into that thing or person.
One feels much better than the other. I don't want us to shoot ourselves in the foot when we experience neglect. Here's how I no longer allow myself to go through this experience. There is a sweet spot. It's in the middle where we are most balanced.
At peace. Within the sweet spot we experience self awareness. We then understand our intentions. Neglect no longer feels neglectful, instead we replace it with words like "put to rest." Sounds less shameful right? The intention creates the peace or feeling of balance as we approach the completion of our projects or the success of our relationships. Understanding that we are not sabotaging our success and instead respecting the sub-particles of our desires.
There is often a reason why we "put to rest" and those reasons need our attention more than the actual project.
I am a passionate, driven artist who looses self as much as I rediscover it. I hope these words has helped you in any way on your creative journey.

I recently went on a work trip to California and had an amazing experience! But I’ll be honest before I left I was so nervous to be away from my boys (hubby and dog included). I thought for sure I would be in my hotel room sad and missing them since this was my first time away from all of them since having my son in 2018!
And you know what... I did miss them!
But I took advantage of the alone time and woke up both mornings to workout and then go for a walk by myself!
I checked in and FaceTimed them to say good night before bed both nights!
I was able to find balance and not feel guilty being away.
Sometimes we focus on the quantity of time we spend with people and forget that it’s truly about the QUALITY time!
My goal for 2020 is to focus more on quality time with my family and not the quantity! “Make sure you switch off”
We often hear this but let’s be honest, you can’t really switch off.
Our minds are always operating at some level and our internal battery is slowly draining 🔋
Sometimes it’s slow.
Sometimes it’s quick.
Here’s the good news.
You can recharge.
Think of ourselves like a phone.
When you switch off a phone, it doesn’t recharge automatically. Hold up before you techies tell me there is a phone that does this. That isn’t the point 🤚🏽🤣
There are different things that help us to recharge. Here are some of my favourites:
- Sleeping (The most important) - Meditation
- Exercise (without overdoing it)
- Travelling/Exploring - Music (Listening and creating it)
- Reading/Audio books
- Spending time with loved ones
- Eating good food.
There are more but today I decided to slow down and did all the above and I’m so glad I did.
This week has been full on.
In a good way but naturally it had its challenges. And it should but by the weekend I felt pretty depleted.
I used to keep the foot on the gas when this happened and then drive into a wall eventually by getting burnt out, sick and generally feeling like I was on the floor.
So today instead of doing that, I listened to myself internally and externally 👂 .

I decided to park my mind for a minute and share this with a you before I carry on.
For those that have been paying attention. I took my weekly accountability picture this morning and will share it along with the write up tomorrow about how I have handled my last week.

Balance in relationships requires good communication from a true desire of understanding 🔹▪️🔹

For years I was the bleeding heart not realizing that as much as I was deeply loved for this I was also easily manipulated because I always wanted to see the best. When I began to focus on self love, self care, & took self responsibility to a whole new level it took a while to find the right balance. Sometimes we get upset with others for “taking” too much when we didn’t communicate our boundaries clearly. Sometimes people don’t respect our boundaries intentionally—there is a need for discernment here. 🔹▪️🔹
Recently a friend told me she had tried to communicate a need for a different balance in our relationship but had felt I ignored her. I almost broke down in tears because I care so much & had never intended her to feel that way. There was no way for me to anticipate this need of hers & I’m so glad she communicated. I had honestly never been in that position before—I’m used to over-giving. Once I calmed down I was so grateful for the experience.
When the shoe is on the other foot.
I don’t use the word selfish in every day language because I find it is often used with a lack of understanding & as a judgment. I think it is good for us to focus on ourselves & communicate our needs clearly but this type of emotional intimacy can get messy & that has to be okay if we desire true connection.
I tossed and turned during the night and woke early and anxious. I was already thinking about the work week ahead - meetings to prep for, speech to write, research for next weeks conference panel to do and my very long to do list to clear (it's an enchanted list I think because it never seems possible to get on top of and I'm good at prioritisation and delegation!). Plus all the important stuff I need do at home for my most loved. Mixed with a huge desire to do nothing at all 🙄
All too regularly there just never seems to be enough time to do everything that needs to be done. I know many of us struggle with this.
The end result is that I spend far too much time overtired and feeling guilty for letting someone down. Then on bad days the inner voices of self doubt start and my inner irrational being struggles free dominating my thinking. Mercifully I can keep it at bay often and am good at breathing through the fear it creates.
But sometimes that's not possible. When I'm in that place my best remedy is fresh air, a long walk with the dog and taking notice of the beauty around me. So here's me loving the windy weather and beginning to feel better.
8km later and the speech is planned, I've worked out which meetings to skip so I can clear the priorities and I've a plan of how to help my daughter with her revision.
I've laughed at the wind in my hair, loved the dramatic storm clouds and bright yellow gorse and felt thankful for the blue sky peeping through and for the opportunity to walk and breathe deeply.
I'm ready to face the day.
Exploring white sandy beaches, good coffee, good friends, teaching Yoga and living life to the full. All simple ingredients but the recipe for happiness is always simple. Have a great day everyone.
P.s my shoulders are white because of sunscreen. A brand I probably won’t be using again 😂

Already working on the tan & the bod. 🤣🙏🏼🌸 I’m big into balance though- I don’t get into “chicken, rice and green beans” mode unless I have something coming up. I eat clean 70% of the time, and satisfy my cravings 30% of the time whether it’s sushi, cookies, drinking, etc. Unless your in contest prep, balance is important or else mentally you’ll break down. “Cheating” on your diet will make you feel guilty and it’s just a downwards spiral from there. #BalanceIsKey 🔑

Sunday Baking 👩🍳 GLUTEN-FREE ZUCCHINI COCONUT FLOUR MUFFINS - yes please!
I wanted to make sure I had easy grab & go healthy “treats” for the busy week ahead! Try this delicious recipe below.
1 1/2c coconut flour / GF flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1/4c shredded unsweetened coconut
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/2c maple syrup
1/2c coco milk
1/4c melted organic butter or coco oil
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2c grated fresh zucchini
10-12 Dark chocolate squares
1/3 cup GF oats
1. Heat oven to 350°F and prep a muffin tin with parchment liners.
2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, shredded coconut and salt until combined. Set aside.
3. In another bowl, whisk egg, maple syrup, milk, butter or coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, and vanilla until combined. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredient mixture, and stir gently with a spoon until just combined – be careful not to over mix.
4. Stir in the zucchini. If you want to add the oats, add them in now.
5. Divide batter into 10-12 muffins, top with dark chocolate (have fun with this - I used a natural dark coconut choc bar) and cook for 18-20 minutes.
6. Sprinkle with coconut while chocolate is melted.
