Our offices are closed, my kids schools are closed and I work in HR so there is a lot of work to be done to care for employees right now. I stepped away for 30 minutes to get in a run and clear my head. #runforhealth#mentalhealth#runstrong #takecareofyourselfpic.twitter.com/oDBScsxvEB
Yesterday morning my mind said: "Tomorrow I'll go for my long run"
Today my mind said: "Yeah but I need to do this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and..."
The result? Overwhelm! I'm not feeling in the right space for my planned run.
Okay, I need to work this through...
My mind is saying the word "need" a lot but is that really true? Do I really "need" to do all of these things? What can I prioritise, complete easily and delay?
Complete a couple of easy tasks before heading out.
Prioritise the today tasks that need more time for after my run when I know I'll be in a better headspace for them.
Write a list of tasks that can be done another day and put it to one side until it is needed.
Body check and action:
Yesterday at work was pretty crazy and I've woken up hungrier than usual. Time to get some extra nutrition in!
Check my HRV. It's looking good and giving me the green light so I know all is physically well.
I'm conscious I've not been able to have my usual sports massage this week so I use some of my running time for self-myofascial release. That was definitely needed!
I'm feeling significantly less overwhelmed and the 'to-do' list in within my control
My body is set up and ready for a run
I have less time having committed some to the fascial release but it's worth it as I know I'll get more from a shorter run in a good physical state than a long run with a load of tight spots.
What's left to do but head out and enjoy my run!
Have a great weekend everyone and keep caring for that body and mind :)

When I was undergoing cancer treatment as a kid, I was mostly sedentary. I was sick and weak, and spent most days at home watching TV or resting. I was too sick to go to school more often than not, and when I did go, I was wiped halfway through the day.
I was so stationary that walking became difficult. I remember barely being able to move my feet forward and it being the biggest challenge walking through NYC on my Make a Wish Trip. It felt like I had to learn to walk all over again...
When you workout or go on a run, the first 10 minutes, or the first mile, is hard. You’re like, gosh why am I doing this. I should quit. I’m tired. This is dumb.
(Literal thoughts on my 5.5 mile run today 🤣)
But as the time goes on you feel stronger, you can go farther and longer, and you feel amazing once you’re done.
The fact that I can actually run 6 plus miles when I could barely walk is legitimately a God given miracle looking back.
I don’t want to workout every single day. I don’t want to run every single day. There are days I don’t feel like doing a dang thing. But the days that I do, I’m able to reflect on and be amazed at my own strength and just how far I have come.
I’m grateful to be able to move my body and live the life I have been given ♥️

Interrupting my run for this little cardinal singing her heart out. I heard her from afar and above all other bird calls. .
The worries of tomorrow...silenced for just a little while...
That chest though 🦍 10 miles outside 🏃🏻♀️ • 1:37:22 • 9:44 p Today’s the first day I’ve been up at a decent hour and it’s so beautiful outside! Ran to songs that I normally listen to on the boat and it made me crave summer... and beer and I don’t even drink it!
A lot of vulnerable people have may have lost their face to face running community leaving them uncertain, unsure, untied...but we are still united.

We are hanging on to each other right now. One day we feel like we've got this all figured out, and the next day we just want to give up.
If you feel defeated right now, just know that you’re not alone, and every small step you take right now makes an impact.
From checking in with others to offering help to just simply staying home, you are doing your best and making a difference. And I'm proud of you in every decision you make!
Tell me how you are holding up today? Who, or what, are you hanging on tight to?!

Stroke to Mds in 6 months.
On 12th march I suffered a stroke resulting in, amongst other things, the loss of my balance. I consider myself relatively lucky and I am now on the road to recovery.
Next week, I should have been heading to the Sahara to run Marathon des sables, which has thankfully been posponed until september due to corona.
The challenge is therefore quite obvious: 6 months to get body and mind back in form and get to the starting line in september.
